We Returned to Flowertown!
Year Twelve is over! 16 Pub Leaguers revisited the old haunt, Flowertown Pub, for our 39th (!) Pub Night. And it was our first event under the ‘new rules’ – Timed Events with a Playoff System! And despite horrific injury, a familiar face managed to dramatically rise above all challengers to claim The MacKinnon Challenge Cup – congratulations to our winner, Jana E!

2019 PUB LEAGUE CHAMPION JANA E
As mentioned, 2019 included the first rule changes in over a decade. Events were timed – as much as possible, although as one event was wrapping up, we discovered Cousin Dave wandering around the bar, having not played anything that round – but our new schedule seems to have achieved the desired effect of keeping the action moving.
Also, we introduced the new playoff system. Four hardworking players made it to The Final Four, two boys, two girls. In a frantic ball bounce match, the boys were quickly tossed aside, leaving Jana and Stacy to do battle at the dartboard in sudden-death. Jana emerged triumphant, capturing her FOURTH MacKinnon Challenge Cup!

The Final Four of our first Playoff! Stacy B, Jana E, Jeff L, Casey W.

Nancy L was the excited winner of the 50/50! Congratulations Nancy!

As playoffs continued, the men quickly exited the Final Four, leaving a breathless head-to-head match between Jana E and Stacy B.

Despite her triumph, Jana E spent a bit of the evening feeling the pain of the finger she recently chopped off.

Hey! The MacKinnon Challenge Cup is not a vessel for condiments!

With an empty glass. Boo!
Usually The Rummies Of Flowertown leave the Pub Leaguers to do their thing. However, one of the more… interesting(?) characters in the bar, chose to intermingle, silently, amongst the group, staring silently, rarely speaking, totally zonked out on … yup, cocaine. Can you pick him out in the photo below? Look right. Stay classy, Flowertown!

The festivities would not be complete without Ole Coke Head.

Publeaguers United! Prior to realizing that Ole Coke Head was, well, Ole Coke Head, he was asked to take this photo. After seven unsteady attempts, he managed to get half of Dan K in the photo. We’ll take it.

The Jeffs!

Our family Christmas Card next year.

Jana E and Dear Leaderette tend to behind-the-scenes stuff that makes Pub League tick like a drunken Swiss-watch.

Dear Leader, Casey W, Stacy B, Ian S, and the photographer’s thumb.

Former champions Jeff L & Jana E, with Dear Leader (who ain’t won sh*t, except for a 50/50 a few years ago).

Dan K, Dave W, Sandra K attempt a high-five.

Things began to decline rapidly.

Wisemen & Wisewomen search the jukebox for carols.

Michelle D with Brent S. Feeling under the weather, Michelle was sick as a dog and left partway through, heading to Wuhan China so she could commence spreading Coronavirus.

Karen D at her first Pub Night! With Tara M, Jana E, Jeff B. Newcomer Karen would be our Trivia Winner for the night! Congrats!

Dave W had a great time and kept the Pub in Pub League. I don’t think he lasted until Trivia before he was carried out.

Happy Pub Leaguers!

We didn’t notice the height difference in these four cousins, until this photo. One of these is not like the others.

The trauma of this photo is: shortly thereafter, Dear Leader lost his Tiger Woods hat. Oh, and Jana has a severed finger.

A note on scoring – the ultimate winner shall receive enough additional points, (if required), to win the night by 1pt. Hence, while in regular play (see above scoreboard), Jana scored 30 to Jeff L’s 32; however, with her win, Jana is awarded 3 bonus points, giving her a 33 point night victory.
And congrats to newcomer Karen D on her trivia win!
And props to Good Sport Jeff L. Any other year, you would have won the cup, as you topped the initial leaderboard. With Playoffs, you lost. Thank you for being our first sacrificial non-cup-winning lamb.
And the big winners – three lucky kids in crap parts of the world will receive bedkits because of your efforts! Well done!
The MacKinnon Challenge Cup shall return soon for lucky Year 13! Stay tuned for details!
– Dear Leader
