The prestigious MacKinnon Challenge Cup is the prize awarded to the winner of Pub League at the conclusion of each season.

A temporary gold-coloured placeholder cup was awarded in the first 2 years. The international search for a cup worthy of the event did take some time; finding a cup that represented the prestige, honour and respect of the league was paramount.

The true MacKinnon Challenge Cup was finally discovered in Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, (Scotland being home to generations of MacKinnons stretching back hundreds of centuries). The cup was transported from this 9th century castle, across the ocean and arrived in Canada for the conclusion of Pub League Year 3, where it was presented to winner Dan Williams.

The cup was then mounted on the original base with the original placards, creating an award that one must conclude is over 1100 years old.

The name & photograph of each Pub League winner are forever inscribed on the base of the cup. The cup then resides the remainder of the year at Dear Leader’s homestead, where it may be viewed by appointment.

In 2012 The Cup was mounted onto an oak base, allowing for the addition of a multitude of future winners.

HISTORY OF THE
MacKINNON CHALLENGE CUP

Dunvegan Castle, discovery place of The Challenge Cup, has links to the 9th century, hence opening the possibility that The Cup was constructed in the year 800.

In 2010, after a fruitless search in North America & The Caribbean, the Holy Quest for The Challenge Cup that shall bear his name sends Dear Leader to Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

Arrival at Dunvegan, where Dear Leader has been lead in the search for his holy grail. Will the true MacKinnon Challenge Cup finally be discovered?

SUCCESS! Deep within the underground caverns of the castle, Dear Leader is lead by mystical forces to THE MACKINNON CHALLENGE CUP!

He is also lead to a bottle of water & a stuffed sheep.

Dear Leader triumphantly emerges from the castle, Challenge Cup in hand.

All behold the power of The Challenge Cup!

Dear Leader has to look at gardens.

Back on track, Dear Leader vows that The Cup shall be dipped in each of the world’s oceans, starting with the nearby Atlantic.

Dear Leader dips the cup in the water, which he shortly learns is a lake. (“Loch”). He abandons the quest to dip the cup in every ocean.

The Cup completes its 1100 year journey, arrives in Canada and is presented (albeit inside the temporary cup, for now) to our third-year winner, Dan Williams. It would shortly be attached to the original base.

The MacKinnon Challenge Cup – who will win it next?

Perhaps that sketchy looking guy, lurking in the background, plotting his revenge.

Fun fact:

It is said,
Whoever drinks from The Cup, shall have eternal youth.
And grey hair.
