IT'S OVER!!

Thanks to everyone who came out in 2014 for a great cause!

The 2014 Season wrapped up with a whopper of a final BBQ party - 21 people fought hard for the final prizes, but one man would emerge victorious....

The runnerup for the MacKinnon Challenge Cup was Jeff L. Diane S won trivia, and Mary Anne H took home the 50/50 as well as The Teeter Prize! Congrats to all!

BACK TO BOWLING!

Pub League continued the 2014 season with our popular Bowling event.

21 Pub Leaguers came out for bowling, a new record!

 

Newcomer Peter L would prove to be the evening winner with 38 points!

Jessica actually nearly claimed The Last Place Teeter Award, the award for trying everything and coming in last, a prize named in her honour.
She tied for it, but ultimately, lost.

Spencer L had a valiant effort, winning all 3 games, and getting the maximum amount of points available for strikes - 3 per game! So despite a PERFECT bowling score, some tricky triva questions and challenges found at the ball bounce table kept Spencer from ultimate victory.

The fifty-fifty draw went to Heather S, bringing home a sweet $81, after Dear Leader and beloved wife Tara M managed to put all of their tickets in the bucket, including the part they were supposed to hold onto. Oops.

UPDATED MAY 3, 2014

PUB LEAGUE HAS RETURNED!

Pub League returned with a 21 person spectacular event at Flowertown, a big drunken bash to kick off our seventh season. Darts, pool, trivia, euchre, ring toss were all in the mix. The competition was fierce. After a ball bounce tie-breaker, one newcomer would prevail. Congratulations to Seamus C on his first appearance and first victory!

It was a pair of newcomers in the final, with Kevin W and Seamus C bouncing balls in the wee hours of the morning to determine a victor. Kevin fell honourably but gets his entry fee back. We'll watch Kevin for great things to come.

In Trivia, a particularly hard set of questions led to a four way tie for those with (only) 3 points. A dart-off led to Jeff L claiming the $10 prize, his fifth trivia win! Congrats to Jeff.

On the other end of the board, Ian C was awarded the Teeter Prize for trying everything and coming in dead last - he got his entry fee back. Forensic accounting the next morning revealed that he actually tied for this honour, so Ian, if you see Tony H, you owe him $5. And it should be pointed out, Mary-Anne H actually came in last with 9 points, but had to leave the event early, and all Pub Leaguers know, prizes are never awarded in absentia. Unless, Ian C and Tony H, you want to give her your blood money.

WE'RE BACK!

Pub League returns with a proper THREE EVENT schedule for 2014! Enough of this one event nonsense! It's a LEAGUE afterall ! Our first event is a traditional Pub Night, the Night that puts Pub into Nights, with old favourites DARTS, POOL, EUCHRE, TRIVIA and MORE. Along with cash prizes! Returning to THE FLOWERTOWN PUB after a successful first run in 2012. We'll follow that with BOWLING at Brunswick Bowl in Brampton on 30 May, and then on 21 June our BBQ Bash with the SEVENTH awarding of The MacKinnon Challenge Cup!

It all starts at The Flowertown May 2! See you there!

CONGRATS TO YOUR 2013 CHAMPION, JANA E!

Jana E, Winning The MacKinnon Challenge Cup for the third time

Moved to another country; raised new offspring; moved to a new home; 2013 was a busy year for Dear Leader, hence the 2013 season started and finished in a matter of hours. 20 contestants threw their costume in the ring for our first Hallowe'en Themed Pub League.

And once again, history repeated as 07/08 & 2012 winner Jana E fought her way to the top. Congratulations Jana! Hey, let the rest of us have a chance in 2014, please!

The battle for the cup was the closest in years, as several other Pub Leaguers finished within a point or two of victory. Second place was a tie between Nicola A and Spencer L. A true heartbreaker for Spencer; if he had answered a trivia question with 'Cal Ripken Jr', instead of 'Cal Ripken Sr', he would have at least forced a playoff.

Another close race was Nicola A; she was late to the proceedings and missed her Ball Bounce challenge initially; we told her not to bother unless it would put her in contention at night's end. Well, we added up the scores, and indeed Nicola had a shot. Despite the pressure, she managed a very respectful 2 out of 4, but ended up just one dunk short of getting into a playoff with Jana E.

Jana E, Winning The MacKinnon Challenge Cup for the 2nd time

The lady above won the prestigious MacKinnon Challenge Cup with its cash prize ($200). No wonder she looks happy! AND she won the 50/50 draw! Nice payout for her. Jana also has a minor record, that she is the first person to win The Cup that did not actually win a night event during the year.

Wes J won the evening prize of $80 - his first time in 5 years that he finished atop the leaderboard! He also took the trivia prize of $10. Well done sir!

Congrats to Rob M for finishing second on the evening. The runnerup for the MacKinnon Challenge Cup was Tara P, her best finish yet. She vows to take the cup in 2013. And at the bottom was Lee Ann C, graciously accepting her Teeter Prize (from Teeter herself!) Congrats to all! See you in June!

The final BBQ is next! Saturday July 14, MacKinnon homestead! Arrival & Registration 3pm, shotgun start, TIMED events, everything wraps up by 7pm! And then, the 5th awarding of the MacKinnon Challenge Cup and the $200 grand prize! And remember, all in all it is a party - everyone welcome!

For Event Four, we tried a different bar - Pub League was always conceived as a place where we would wander and try different bars. So off we went to CCs Bar & Grill. Excellent food, and nice and quiet so we could do "our thing".

Relative newcomer Ian C emerged the night winner with 33 points - congrats to Ian! Long distance traveller Rob M finished second. Our Teeter prize for Person That Tried Everything, But Came In Last went to Jeff B, a night winner last season. Shows the ever shifting power struggle! Wes J took home the trivia prize with 7 correct answers.

This was our first visit to Brunswick Bowl, and things went smoothly. A much nicer facility than the now defunct VIP Lanes (and a busier one!), 16 bowlers fought it out, shaking up the leaderboard...

Flowertown rocked! 22 PubLeaguers came out to our first Pub League visit to Flowertown Pub, the third bar location in League history.

Congrats to winner Richard Munter, who takes home the $80 prize. It was a special evening for the Munters, as they managed to bookend the scoreboard - Jessica takes home the Teeter Prize for trying everything but coming in last place - she gets her entry fee back.

In other news, Tara P just missed winning the night because she doesn't know what Brad Pitt looks like, but congrats on her second place finish. Sharron G was our trivia winner.

Jana E likes her free beer! In the bonus throw, she managed to get 2 red bulls. So, what happened on the third dart? Lazy?

It was also a night for the Record Books, as Richard M managed to tie Jana E's four year old record for the highest score in the Pub - 41 points. A tie, after nearly 4 years to the day!

 

Since Tara M (here with Sharron G) started running Pub Nights, Dear Leader has discovered this whole business is quite fun! And a great excuse for having a pint! Or Twelve.

You know that Pub League is a great place to relax, play games with friends, drink & eat, and maybe win a bit of cash. We received photos today that reminded us of what Pub League is also about - helping kids in the world who don't have the stuff we take for granted - including a comfy bed, clothes, books.

We've been using the funds from Pub League to buy "bedkits" for these kids, through a great foundation - Sleeping Children Around the World, in memory of Shawn's mom Beverley and Tara's dad George.

So next time you're getting trashed on a Pub Night, remember - you're making a kids life a little better!

Welcome back Pub League! Year FIVE will commence on Saturday February 25th with our CURLING EVENT! This is the fourth year doing this great event, it sells out every year & is a ton of fun - BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW, DON'T WAIT. As last year, we will have five events. To qualify for the grand prize of $200, you must have attended 3 of 5 events.
